Not all hope is lost.

Right – now that I’ve had my cry about not getting through to the previous Airline I applied for, I’ve done my research into other airlines and come across one that apparently isn’t so strict on eyesight.

Qantas!

qantas-leafcutterI know someone that works for the Australian Airline and has said that they didn’t check eyesight when she was hired. Or maybe they did, but it wasn’t a big deal if you wore glasses or contact lenses and had bad eye sight.
I checked online on the weekend and found that Qantas is currently hiring for Flight Attendants in my home city too!

Yesterday as I was off work sick, I filled out all the application forms online and sent them through to Qantas.
I think as I’ve already booked & paid for my First Aid Course next week (for the previous airline) I’m going to go ahead with it and get the certificate anyways. It cost me $240 and I’m not sure if I can cancel it so I may as well get it in-case I get through with Qantas and they need me to do the course too.

I’ve found heaps more information online about Qantas.
They’re a pretty big Airline in Australia but unfortunately since I live in New Zealand (no they’re not the same place as some people in America think) then they don’t fly to many destinations from here.
From Wellington they only fly to Sydney and Melbourne.
aus-map-bigI know it’s not very exciting but it’s a start!
I’m hoping that one day my partner and I will move together to Australia and I can work for Qantas there. Their main base is in Sydney and from there they fly Domestically to Darwin, Broome, Hobart, Perth, Adelaide, Cairns, Hamilton Island, Brisbane and the Gold Coast (all cities in Australia)
They also fly to New Zealand which would be nice to come back and visit family if I had the chance.
However, Brisbane, Perth & Melbourne are also options of places to live as they fly all over from there as well.

I thought Air New Zealand had all the cool destinations until I read where Qantas fly’s to!
They fly to London, Dubai, Bangkok, Shanghai, Singapore, Johannesburg, Santiago, LA, San Francisco, Dallas, New York, Noumea, Nadi and Honolulu. Most of these destinations are based from Sydney so hopefully I can end up there one day 🙂
I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much though. I’ve only just sent my application through and I may not even be invited to the Recruitment event, let alone get through to the final stages.

It’s hard when you live in little ole’ New Zealand and we have basically three airlines you can apply for. If you don’t get through with one, you only have 2 others to choose from.
If I don’t do Flight Attending, I’m not sure what else I want to do.
Does anyone have any ideas for me?
I love Travel (hence the blog), but I don’t really want to sit behind a desk all day, I’d love to get discounts off travel or accommodation, I love people, I’m very out-going and bubbly and I’m really good at researching (according to my boyfriend) If you tell me you’re going to NYC or Bali I can usually find out what tours are there, when the best time to go is, what airlines fly there etc etc. It sounds like I should just be a travel agent shouldn’t I? They just always seem so stressed and under pressure to hit targets all the time…

Anyways, so those are my plans so far.
If I hear back from Qantas I’ll let ya know!

Please send positive thoughts my way wallpaper-praying-cat

I currently work for an airline, but I’m an inch to small in arm reach to work for my dream airline so I totally get your frustrations…! You just want to scream 🙄 X

      Ahh I know!
It’s weird how something applies for one Airline and not the next. I’m sure if you really couldn’t reach something than someone would help you.
I hope you’re enjoying your current Airline though! x

You definitely have to be a certain type of person to be a Travel Agent and you’re right it’s so stressful and so many targets to meet. I thought that it was my dream job and I lasted for 18 months before realising it wasn’t all cheap travel and discounts more just money money money although that could have been the company I worked for! Have you thought about working on a cruise ship or being a tour guide? You’d be awesome at that, you’re so bubbly and friendly, travel is such a hard industry in NZ since we are so far from anywhere 😟

Yeah, I worked in a Beauty job where it was just SELL SELL SELL!! And there was so much pressure to hit your targets that it ruined the whole aspect of beauty therapy for me. I just don’t want the same thing to happen with me & travel.

Yeah, maybe a cruise ship would be cool. 🙂

Hi! I think we share the same sentiments about these airlines however, after a couple of attempts I got through. You can read from my post. All the best to you Sarah hope you’ll get your wings soon! Cheers!

Just keep trying! I applied to three airlines before I got a yes, it’s very hit or miss, but so worth it! Sounds like you would be perfect! Best of luck!

    Thanks Sarah 🙂
I did end up applying with a different Airline but didn’t get through 😦 Maybe my timing just isn’t right right now.
